id like to hear some of the stereotypes that england has against america and other various countries, i need to know this! dont hold back, just think of EVERY one you know and post it here.
[ Edit Sam England - Topic title made better descriptions ]
So you mean what we stereotypically see as an american, from the point of someone in the UK? As opposed to the various stereotypes seen internally in america... My views are more centered around my business experiences and dealing with customers.
Having dealt with many businesses and from a community moderators point of view dealing with manu american memebers, inmany (nut most importantly not all), the american comes across as arrogant, less willing to help and cooperate, less willing to work and have less patience than for example, an Indian, of which we deal with many on our development team and on the marketing team. We generally have, as a site, better releations with India than the US, although this varies heavily; our US hsoting company when we hosted in the US as opposed to the UK, was actually very helpful.
I hope this is of help to you; why do you need to know? Just curiosity? or a sociological study? I am actually studying sociology myself
rofl heres my response to these steriotypes
all arrogant : blame gangs and rap
all stupid : idiots who listen too much to rap and do drugs 24/7
all fat : depression + overabundance of McDonalds in america
all rednecks : that only goes for the southern states (celebreties are much worse of scum than rednecks)
all republicans : blame the freemasons for bush and republicanism
all love/want war : the only people who want war are the rednecks and our genius president who almost died from choking on a pretzel.
and as for you sam, this was a bit of my own research out of curiosity to see what other countries think about us. the way i deal with the people around me is i dont acknowledge anyone who doesn't show any interest in getting somewhere in life or anyone who does drugs. which sadly, in my area is a huge percentage of the people. i can honestly say most of the people in my state OF my generation so far are arrogant, stupid, lazy, drug addicted losers who strive on rising up in their social life by constantly knocking others down. But there are exceptions... the people who dont live chained down by their social life, drugs, or any other of these problems succeed in life and realize that by staying in this area they will get nowhere. after they do this they move away leaving nothing but bad influence to the younger people. thus, adding to the drug addicts and gang problems in my area.
A very common thought of germans is that the americans don't give a fuck of the environment because they are too stupid to realise what they are doing to the planet. That ain't no stereotype though

Yep, they want to go about the Geneva convention, their own way.
Ignorant about the world around them, and too self-centred (on america, not the individual).
One of my friends went to a school in Florida when he was younger (he's British). History and Geography was one combined subject. It was American history and geography. A stereotype of Americans is that they are ignorant about anything outside of the USA. Of course, this doesn't apply to those Americans that are better educated or less opinionated (e.g. the Americans in this very thread, who are obviously very open-minded).
It's not just people in the UK that see Americans as being obnoxious or arrogant - I now live in Australia, where the view of Americans is identical to that of the UK's view. Europeans, i know, have the same view of Americans. As do most of the people i have met around the world.
This American map sums it up - notice that the USA is at the centre, despite the convention (and practicality) of putting Greenwich, London (0 Degrees Longitude) at the centre.
