In case you missed it, Apple and iTunes had a bumpy week, with headlines tracking across the Web, wire services and cable news with rather unflattering reports of declining sales:
Report says iTunes sales took big dive in first half of this year
Report: Apple iTunes sales plummeting
Is iTunes singing its swan song?
Of course, Apple has consistently maintained that iTunes is merely a vessel to sell iPods and isn't supposed to be a money-maker, but someone in Cupertino was noticeably upset over the claims, and issued an uncharacteristic response within 24 hours with a simple, definite statement:
The conclusion that iTunes sales are slowing is simply incorrect.
And with so many rumors floating around, I suppose Apple has a right to be angry. With daily  and sometimes hourly  rumors about iPhone prompting analyst reports and coloring investors' fears, AAPL has been on a roller coaster ride for the past few weeks, as Wall Street tries to beat Think Secret and AppleInsider at their own game.
So, it's understandable that Apple would defend itself against such a baseless attack. For starters, the survey sample only included 181 iTunes customers; for another, it didn't include purchases made with iTunes gift certificates or PayPal accounts.
