While speaking to VideoGamer.com, a Rockstar representative explained that the company will not be putting up a demo for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV. "I'm sure there won't be," the rep explained. "Most people know the concept of GTA anyway. I don't know that the demo is worth the time and effort."
The rep then went on to explain that Rockstar don't believe a demo would be appropriate for a game like GTA IVanyway. "Much of GTA 4 is the driving around and we wouldn't be able togive out the whole city. We would have to give away half the game forfree. People would think Liberty City is a tiny city. You run intoproblems."
While a demo is an important tool for selling a game, there are somefranchises that can live without them. In Rockstar's case, giving awaya large demo might actually decrease sales because players will have a lot to play with without having to spend a dime. We think that it's safe to say that GTA IV will have no problem pushing units. Keep in mind that it's also prudent to be skeptical of unnamed sources.
GTA IV is due to be released on April 29th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
