Someone came up to me on MSN, and said this:

Quote:
[17:33] Master J A Smith. - Chickens 'r' us.: Hey, go on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal#Alloys and delete all the word definitions. You can, and yo0u don't even need to sign up. [17:33] Sam England: delete all the world definitions?
[17:33] Sam England: Whats the point in ruining for others to use?
[17:34] Master J A Smith. - Chickens 'r' us.: Just funny, how you can just edit all the definitions.
[17:35] Sam England: The reason it is so good, is because you can do that; anyone can contribute what they know. Wikipedia is probably one of, if not the best concepts and sucesses on the internet. The last thing The voulunteers who moderate it need is nieeve and time-wasting people like yourself.
[17:36] Master J A Smith. - Chickens 'r' us.: I havn't done anything to it. I just find it funny how you can edit it and not have to have someone check it first.
[17:37] Sam England: They do check it.
[17:37] Sam England: And its not funny, well, I cant see the humor in it.

Now, I think very little of these people, as there are moderators on there who do an great job. Wikipedia is probably one of, if not the best concepts and sucesses on the internet. The last thing The voulunteers who moderate it need is nieeve and time-wasting people like the person who approached me on the internet.

Another thing they wont realise is they will have their IP blacklisted, and also their damage will probably only last for a day or two until a moderator corrects it; all it is is pointless, mindless time wasting; maybe these people could think of doing something constructive on the web; I bet hes some snotty 14 year old too.

lol, people like this make me laugh, obviously they have to much time on the hands and secondly i think they've not been brought up correctly, if you know what i mean :p Seriously what he's doing vandalism and if he did that in 'real' life and he was caught we would be arrested and sent to court, why cant we do that online? Its so unfair.

The Internet is new, and is very hard to legislate upon.

I know why it is that way. there are currently no laws on the internet. It is not governed or ruled by anyone. nobody has control over it you can basically get away with almost anything.

That's also what makes the internet so popular though

And there are alot of laws, most of them related to copyrights...

Not necessarily copyrights, more moral rights for patents, trademerks and copyright, yes, but wikipedia is creative commons mostly.

Make it a DVD we can get more on

Its not internet law thats needed, its a way of enforcing it, maybe a global convention whick would be hard to do, i.e most spam comes from, or claims to come from pakistan, nigeria etc, countries that cant even begin to think about enforcing such laws... The problem is enforcing laws, in retrospective, but in the K there is the data protection act (protecting data!), computer misuse act (no unortharised access/hacking/malicious software etc), and all the patent, trademerk and moral rights laws.
