I also heard that Vista will be the first gaming orientated OS, and it gives games their own section on the start menu, with a manager with box art, and direct access to support, performance ratings, PEGI rating intergration; you can even set time limits for how long you want to play. Also Microsoft found that most crashes were due to Grahics (although how many of us use the Windows error reporting?). You can also use the 360 contol pad, made by microsoft on Vista, and use it to navagate the desktop. There are Game-Friendly options in the control panel, and more! I really can't wait for vista Oh... I already have it; I cant wait for the first Vista Games, aside Halo 2, there will be Flight Simulator X. The landscape is modelled 16 times more detail in the previous versions of Microsoft Flight Simlulator; and 24,000 international airport, and also real city landscapes (your house might be on there ); and you could use the 360 contoller! There are amazing water effects from what I have seen, and real time lighting and views, 3D Clarity stretches right off the horizon, and glare (proper glare) is visible as su hits the paintwork and textures... The days of sterile environments are long gone... hopefully we migth see some fully destructable environments in Halo 2, and some of the effects we will see in Halo 2. These games look to be utilising the extra space given by DVD formats, and in Flight Simulator (this is from the Nvidia Magazine)

With such detail and scale, every gamer will have the opportunity to fly right over their own hometown, even navagating on the streets below!
You have to credit microsoft for their 360, and what they have done with IE 7...
I'm a Mac (Ok, XP too ) user... and here I am saying...
Vista is coming guys.

I don't know all that much about this vista thing But I have to say I thought XP was a pretty decent gaming related OS. Vista is quite a ways off yet but It will be something to look forward too. But for me im stuck with xp for a bit longer yet because it will be about 3 or 4 more years on my 2 year old HP Pavilion before I can even think of another computer.
XP was an atrocity. It required a plethora of processes to keep your compy stable. Most processes on Vista won't be necessary like the ones on XP. I've heard that you can get it down to about 6 and still have a very stable compy.
I hope its just not endless "performance" utilities that turn of font smoothing etc, and that actually genuinely tuen off those processes, including that microsoft spyware and all the rest of the "services", so that it runs on the 6 or so needed to run. It was discussed that you can dual boot and edit the registry to fix this but it wouod be nice if Vista had a true gaming mode, and at the moment it looks like a child rating system thats easily overcome, and a timer, along with box shots etc, probably like a crapper version of steam! All gimmicks to make you buy vista just for Halo 3/C&C 3.
Basically Vista benchmarks slower than XP across the board. Gamers want killer performance, Vista makes things worse. Until they fix this, the maths is pretty obvious.
oh damn i didn't even know about the heavy ram dependency in vista, i have 1gb on my rig right now, and it's working perfectly fine...i don't feel like spending another couple hundred on another gb of ram, or 2 more gb of ram, everyday i'm like vista is awsome cuz of this, and then i'm like vista sucks cuz of this....damnit microsoft sway me one way or the other, stop see-sawing me!!
Im running Vista on my comp. Really like the display and options, althoug once you start it, it seems it really needs to remind you of everthing twice on things you do. Got annoyed with that.
Overall, Im pretty happy with it, although Ill need to go buy more RAM to support my gaming D
Computer specs:
Board: ASUS A8N-E
CPU: 3800+ AM2
RAM: Corsair TWIN2X 1024MB 240-PIN DDR2 XMS2-6400 RAM
Video: ATI X1600 Pro 512mb
* Only reason I got the 512mb instead of the 128 is because I got a 32 inch LCD HD monitor. And the 512 works better on for that size. Now its just to get an Xbox or PS3 to play on that beast... O_o
