I just thought I'd mention it, as it was brought up in iVirtua News...
I'm sure we've all seent the Badger flash animation, That was a big viral marketing campaign, and a very sucessful one from viral marketing site,
http://www.sumo-dojo.com/ They have a great site! Go to Portfolio > Viral and Web; they also have a lot of other good content. Their main consumer site is http://www.weebls-stuff.com/.
Viral marketing is sometimes used to describe some sorts of Internet-based stealth marketing campaigns, including the use of blogs, seemingly amateur web sites, and other forms of astroturfing to create word of mouth for a new product or service. Often the ultimate goal of viral marketing campaigns is to generate media coverage via "offbeat" stories worth many times more than the campaigning company's advertising budget.
Quote:
The term "viral advertising" refers to the idea that people will pass on and share interesting and entertaining content; this is often sponsored by a brand, which is looking to build awareness of a product or service. These viral commercials often take the form of funny video clips, or interactive Flash games, images, and even text.
So, basically, the aim of the campaign is simply to create mass interest/knowledge in and of the badgers? I assume that the makers simply hosted advertising on their now-popular website - in order to make money, right? Or do they sell T-shirts and badger gear?
I just heard something about this viral marketing on the real news just the other day. some 17 year old girl did something cool with her website.Im not totally sure what excatly it was though.
