Mostly i use a dark background and then add a fractal kinda brush on the next layer, or i start with clouds, just black and white. Mmm I could always try to make a tutorial if you like.. I used chaosgfx for tuts but that forum is down now You can always check these..
People, please don´t use brushes, you can be creative with photoshop on a other way, try to experiment, try to make some of you own made stuff on you design.
