I have. My buddy has one they are fast. But this is good for me and its not like its pent166 or nothing it still runs with a good speed. I dont need anything blazing fast or i would have bought that
Oh, good for you. I was stuck using my girls Celeron 398MHz on here laptop for at least a month or so. I almost died LOL, way too slow for me, man.
B) I've got a ACER POWER board model v66la 1 originally had a p2 350mhz 256mb ram but i found a p3 in the trash and put that in there jumped a few pins and whamo i had a p3 600mhz and the i got this program to raise the fsb to 133mhz now its running at 800mhz and very stable, cpu temp hasnt changed at all...\"one mans trash is another mans treasure\"
It's not that slow because you havent tried a Athlon 64 ;)
Just thought I'd let you know, the reason Intel hasn't released faster Celeron M's is because they're darn near as fast as Pentium M's. I would much rather buy a 1.7 GHz Celeron M than a 1.8 GHz Athlon 64 3000+. The Celeron would cost me maybe $100.00, and it'd give me darn near equivalent performance as well as lower power to boot.
On top of that, a 1.8 GHz Celeron (Willamette core, not a Dothan or Banias) runs just fine with 512 MB PC3200 SDRAM. Hell, my 850 MHz Pentium III laptop runs just fine with 256 MB of PC100 SDRAM.
I guess I never found this thread, but since XP bumped it, I'll put in my two cents.
Commodore 64 <--don't ask, still works. PI 166mhz Gateway solo 2100 laptop / paperweight / works. AMD K6-2 450Mhz 128MB / working legacy PIII 550Mhz 256MB SDRAM / my knockaround rig. Athlon 1.4Ghz (Thunderbird) 512MB SDRAM / wife's rig / Folder. AthlonXP 1800+ 1.53Ghz 512MB SDRAM / Old rig, now a dedicated protein folder for CyberIT. AthlonXP 2500+ 1.8Ghz 1GB PC 2700 / Newer rig, test bed. Turion64 ML-32 1.8Ghz 1GB DDR400 / New laptop, also folding. Sempron64 3100+ Palermo 1.8Ghz OC'd to 2.2Ghz 1GB DDR400 / newest system / Folder.
Also, I guess it should be noted that I have enough spare parts, cases, motherboards, processors, RAM, PSUs, etc. to build another two or three complete systems. I just don't have the desk space or enough monitors or KVM switches :P The trick is, anytime a friend or someone asks me to upgrade their system for them, I trade off. \"Sure, I'll build you a new system...say, what are you doing with the old one?\" Because I know for a fact that all of you are just like me, any computer is worth keeping, doesn't matter if its a decrepit Tandy 1000 gathering dust. Its an abomination to throw any working computer away...if nothing else, than for cannabilized parts.
Oh yeah, SuperXP, I successfully run WindowsXP Professional on that PI 166Mhz with 128MB of ram. Runs like a charm...as long as I keep the resources as freed up as possible.
