I’ve got a 40gb 4th generation iPod that lasted me a total of 12 months before the HDD started to play up and now it works from time to time....shouldn’t really complain as it was a gift.

I seem to be a glutton for punishment as I am going out to by an 80gb iPod next week from Curry’s (‘cause of the free iTrip)

LG Shine (w 2go flash card - bluetooth headset - remote control) and an 1Go SlideKey mp3 player.

I've been thinking since some times ago about an IPod, only worry is that I don't have the point to buy such an expensive product while I already own enough tools and resources to be quite comfortable.

I have the 2nd gen shuffle - it went in the washing machine, i left it to dry, then it worked and a few weeks later it died then two weeks ago i charged it up and it worked again - the miracles of apple - if you had done that with a zune i would hate to see the outcome :p

Look on newegg.com and you'll find plenty of great cheap MP3 players. Ipod is not only a rip-off but very low quality for what it is. I know people who take care of theirs and still have it break down several times in a few years. Ipod also doesn't act as a flash drive and other than on Linux, it seems like you HAVE to have Itunes. The only good that came out of Ipods were the massive storage, large screens, and easy navigation.  Just like Schutz said, Ipods are the Dell of MP3 players.
