It has been so long since I have been active in gaming that I really can't remember what the reasons were for why europe (britain in particular as I live there) has to wait so long compared to US and Japan. It seems that little has changed since the dissapointments of owning a SNES and never getting the great games that would head to US shores. That was so long ago that I do feel slighlty miffed that not much has changed.
Now that the PS3 is nearly hear (maybe...) I want to get a few things straight first, which brings me to my second question. Will the PS3 be multi region for the purposes of playing import games? Or will I have to chip it?
Speaking of console chipping, As with the Xbox 360, when a "team" chipped it (posted by MKN the second they announced it ), has the PS3 been chipped yet?
Also.. PS3 Will be region free: http://theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=30509

SONY has confirmed that its next generation Playstation three will be region free, at least for gaming.
The outfit had hinted that the move was possible some months ago but it was only officially confirmed yesterday.
Ironically the move is designed to combat piracy. If game players can’t play imported games they tend to chip their consoles, which in turn allows pirates to release illegal copies. Illegal games also run better on chipped consoles.
The move would also enable games makers to do world-wide launches of games, particularly as Blu-Ray will mean that multiple languages can be stored on each disk.
