cubed3.com has an interview with the vice president of Opera for divices, has confirmed that the Wii will have the browser included in the 512 MB of Flash ROM right out of the box and not sold or distributed seperately like it is for the DS. He also stated that the browser is not only for browsing the web, game developers can make use of the browser's technology for whatever purposes they may want. It apparently can also launch in only a few seconds (probably thanks to Wii's "always on" capabilities).
Unforunately I cannot access the website with the interview at this time, I will post more details when I can.
Edit: Alright, I can access the page now so here are some more details:
Although they did not officiall confirm it, they hinted that Opera for Wii will likely be skinnable and use opera mini-programs called "widgets".
It will be able to browse the full web, and companies can make specific applications for the Wii. Javascript support has been confirmed but flash, shockwave, and PDF, which are essential for the web today, have not.
They hinted that the browser will also have Wii remote-based "gestures", but the exact nature has not been confirmed.
The interview appeared to be at least as much an advertisement for their PC and device-based browser as an interview about the wii, he managed to work in how great the Opera browser for other platforms is in many of not most of his replies.

So is this saying the Wii will be able to cruise the web just like a computer? or is it like Xbox live? can you explain to me what opera is??? It seemed like a web browser simular to Internet Explorer. So if the Wii will be able to surf the web what does that mean? Its not that big a deal I mean we all have computers to do that.
I don't have a clue what we are talking about here - I'm guessing that this is a type of games console. If it does have internet communication software, then this proves what I said about games consoles merging with computers.

dude that happened as soon as the Microsoft put a hard drive in the Xbox. When something has a hard drive it isnt a gaming console anymore it becomes a computer.
