Well, I think the Windows 98 SE was great. The Windows 95 just didn't do it for me. And 3.1 was terrible.

I way Windows XP SP-1 & Windows XP 64-Bit.

I pick NT & 98 SE.
I have to admit that when 98 SE came out it really was a good upgrade to the 95.

I would have chosen NT if I could have picked 3.  2000 and XP are both basically a dressed up version of NT 4.0...And if you want to get really technical, you forgot NT 3.51 on the polling list.  You may have forgotten DOS...but you may have been in diapers at the time that DOS was in wide use (but I guess it's not a windows operating system...it IS an MS OS though).

You've got to figure that the OS's should just keep getting better than what we seen in years past.  I would have chosen NT 4.0 over 98 any day--when that's all we had.  Why?

Configured correctly, NT is a pretty d**n stable environment.  Plus it has the ability to be very secure.  NT was a network operating system, 98 wasn't.  98 was a home desktop environment and while it could be networked, it wasn't very good at it.

The big drawbacks to NT were managing devices...there was no device manager like there was in 98 (or 95)...But once you knew how the system worked, you were golden...well driver support was fairly scarce in some areas also.

2000 I think was a launch-pad for XP.  Seemed like they took all the nice features of NT and 98 and put them together into 2000.  What was different about 2000?
It was a NOS from the get-go.  Security...NTFS...Local Security Policy.

Windows 98SE was BS.  It was Windows 98 with a few features...what were they?  I think it was Internet Connection Sharing and....something else I can't remember.  But the \"SE\" tag was BS.

ME was and still is the biggest garbage P.O.S. operating system that Microsoft has ever put out.  Windows 3.1 is by far better...probably faster too.

To use an analogy, windows 95 is like, well, a window.  It breaks, but takes some pounding, works fairly well.

98 and ME, a big,not-quite-done jello.  It crashes like mad, and are the worst version ever released.

Win 2000, a 3 meter thick concrete cube.  Stable as heck and works without crashign.

Win XP, like windows 2000, but is hollow in the middle.

Yes, but didn't the Windows 98 Second Edition resolve those problems? :)
