is this all wireless stuff?
does your router have more than one port or is it just a firewall.

do you have access to your port/router settings?
what  are you trying to achieve?
[span style='color:purple']what's your OS?[/span]

Firewalls can cause lots of trouble when first setting up your internet connection.

Firewalls can cause lots of trouble when first setting up your internet connection.

first step, get a router with a built in firewall.  Second step, dont use a softwar e firewall on the pc, thats where the problems start.  So far no hackage with just the router, Ive had the other software one on for a bit and it didnt catch anything.

Yes. Routers do provide the best firewall because it is built-in and a hardware one.

are you trying to access a lan network or just the internet?
do you have access to your network/router settings? what are they at?
what operating system are you using?

you get connection, where?

if your network is refusing access between your computer and modem then it's probably your router settings.

I highly suggest that you PM unstable about this, since he is the network specialist. Or you can check out his network troubleshooting guidelines.

in regards to the netgear not conecting to the net yes you may find that the fire wall seting may slow down the conection but they will not stop a conection unless you spesify it.

also with the netgear routers you normly have to go in to the address setings to specify wht you want to allow to conect on the ports and what you dont.#

allso if the setting is not set corctly for EEEPA  or  EEEPE this to will stop the conection.

also with wireles if it is 54mg conection transmition and you have the 8011.2 wep setings on the conection will be unsuported by the the resever and the conection will be active but not at the spped set by yore isp and thus the conection will not conect.
