A US shooting rampage at the Virginia Tech university has left 33 people, including a suspected gunman, dead.
There were two incidents two hours apart, at a student dorm where two were killed and at an engineering building where 30 and the gunman died.
Officers said they were working to link the attacks and had not yet identified the gunman. Fifteen people were hurt.
After the deadliest shooting rampage in US history, President George W Bush said the US was "shocked and saddened".
"Schools should be places of safety and sanctuary and learning. When that sanctuary is violated, the impact is felt in every American classroom and every American community," he said.
The Web 2.0-ization of news has been evident in the immediate aftermath of the tragic Virginia Tech campus shooting. Bloggers have covered the event in real time, and individuals have rushed to post photos touching on the event to sites such as Flickr.
Virginia Tech is part of the broader technical community which comprises the InformationWeek readership. So, while I am somewhat hesitant about writing a post right now, when police are still working to determine exactly what has happened, and where silence and reflection is probably the most appropriate route, I feel compelled to take note of what's happened.
In that regard, the best of the Web is in evidence in that there's some sense of a community coming together in the photos being shared on Flickr, and on the blogs covering the shooting, as we all try to make sense of the senseless.
Here now are some public Flickr photos I found:
Within hours of the shootings, photos began to appear on the Web at picture sharing sites such as Flickr. (Via Flicker, http://www.flickr.com/photos/20793456@N00/461593427/)

It's absolutely mind-bending. We say we live in a highly advanced and civilized society, but to have this happen.....it's just horrible. It's terrible stain for all of humanity.
I agree; It is way to easy to but a gun in the US though...

A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the information had not been announced, said Cho was carrying a backpack that contained receipts for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol.
Ballistics tests by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms showed that one gun was used in Monday's two separate campus attacks that were two hours apart.
As a permanent legal resident of the United States, Cho was eligible to buy a handgun unless he had been convicted of any felony criminal charges, a federal immigration official said.
The suspected gunman in the Virginia Tech shooting rampage, Cho Seung-Hui, was a troubled 23-year-old senior from South Korea who investigators believe left an invective-filled note in his dorm room, sources say.
This here is an excellent article concerning Press conference i missed today. The Chicago Tribune site also has a list of articles on the left hand side:

In Summary:
The note included a rambling list of grievances, according to sources. They said Cho also died with the words "Ismail Ax" in red ink on the inside of one of his arms.
Cho had shown recent signs of violent, aberrant behavior, according to an investigative source, including setting a fire in a dorm room and allegedly stalking some women.
A note believed to have been written by Cho was found in his dorm room that railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus...
...Investigators believe Cho at some point had been taking medication for depression. They are examining Cho's computer for more evidence.
The gunman's family lived in an off-white, two-story town house in Centreville.
"He was very quiet, always by himself," neighbor Abdul Shash said of the gunman. Shash said the gunman spent a lot of his free time playing basketball, and wouldn't respond if someone greeted him. He described the family as quiet.[/quote]
