Now that the aftermath of Christmas is upon us and the year is about to turn, many retailers are well into the process of totting up the year's sales. One such company is popular online retailer Amazon, where (not surprisingly) the Nintendo Wii was in the upper echelon of top-selling items. In fact, Amazon says that while it had Wiis in stock, they sold at the ridiculous rate of 17 units per second.
The Wii led the video games division by a long shot, but games rated highly on the list of top-selling items in general, reinforcing the image of a booming industry. The Amazon press release also notes that the excellent Super Mario Galaxy and the intense Call of Duty 4 came away with top spots on the hot item lists.
The company enjoyed a hearty showing throughout the year but, expectedly, had its highest-selling day just before the holiday season. On December 10, the company sold a total of 5.4 million items, which sold at a rate of 62.5 items per second, and it shipped 3.9 million items to 200 different countries. But the best stat of all from the company's holiday performance was this gem: "Amazon.com sold enough Hannah Montana wigs to outfit the entire audience at her December 20th show in Providence, RI."
