hi thanks for all the help i think i will stick with cat5e and cat 6 as they seem to be the easyest to get hold of and just as good as the cat 7. :ermm:
whoaa...wait..right now i have my comp hooked up WIRED to my router with a standard ethernet cable (not sure which kind exactly cuz i'm at school) and that cable came w/my modem...should i get a cat 7 or 6 B cable and my connection will be faster? or is that only from comp<--->comp?
oh...so basically like a cat5e cable will do fine if the router is like right next to the comp...but if the wire is gonna be long..u should get a cat7 or something to maintain the higher speeds...gotcha
Wired networks are optimal at home imo. I've seen households that use wireless network connections when there is no need to pay the extra money as the computers aren't even far away from each other. It has reduced data rates than wired and is sometimes less reliable depending on your area. It is much more easily hacked too.
At my house I have a mixture of the two. A wired connection from my router to my switch, one computer connected to the router via USB and another 3 computers connected to the switch via wired ethernet. I have another wireless router connected to my switch which I only turn on when it is needed.
