Filmmakers have relied on film to make their movies for almost as long as the industry's been around.

Digital projection does not degrade the quality of the picture

Shooting on film may be expensive, but it has a special quality unrivalled by any other media, and though we are not necessarily aware of what is going on behind the scenes when we turn up at the box office, we are stepping into the world of 35mm film.

The release prints of movies arrive in projection rooms as 10,000 feet of film printed as a copy of the original.

So far the only sop towards digital in the analogue cinema world has been in the realm of sound.

But now, finally, film itself may be facing the final curtain as cinemas find the pull of digital forces irresistible.

digital movies means digital piracy.   Look at all the torrents of dvd's that pop up as soon as they are released. The same might happen for digital cinema format movies.

People will Pirate stuff if they made it out of Jam.

People were pirating videos and movies as soon as they could, it's just the way things are.  The fact their digital makes no difference.

Digital film if anything democratizes everything as it is far cheaper to make films with, Robert Rodriguez swears buy it and makes all his films with them now.  And host of others.

people can then go out and make films on a low budget without necessarily having to go through a studio that may not take a punt on them.  As a result people can take more risks and make more interesting films.  Wolf Creek for example.

yeah good point but not if the copy protection gets bigger and better. But I supposed people would find away to get around it so I guess theres always going to be a problem.
