Trying something different with a shooter these days is a good path to success. Codemasters today announced a new shooter that is certainly doing just that. The new game is called Damnation, and it's "billed as a 'shooter gone vertical.'" The title is slated to hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this holiday season.
With vast, open levels that will reportedly offer up to "three hours ofactual gameplay each" and a visual style that is littered with "iconicelements of American history," Damnationallows plays to tackle combat both horizontally and vertically, climbing walls and gun-fighting in the sky with "mind-blowing acrobaticskills."
Vehicles will also play a constant role in keeping the gun-fightsairborne; "motorbikes capable of launching across seemingly infinitechasms" and "huge, armor-piercing marvels that will induce mayhem withevery huge shell" are just two examples.
Just a few tantalizing stills of the game have been released, butthe presentation looks pretty sharp. It's hard to say just how wellthis vertical-game-play system will work out based on the limiteddescription we've been given, but it does sound intriguing. We'll bekeeping our eyes out for more information as it arrives.
