Dude, just go get the PPC architecture. Its so much better. x86 is dead man.
:P
Yeah right. whatever. I like programming in Java. no need to learn lame s**t to have cross platform apps. And no saying java is slow. It is very fast, and they are even developing a Java 3D Api for 3D games and such.
I'm sorry but Java is a joke...that expression about painting the pig comes to mind.
Java is platform independent and is still being developed. It is used for normal apps, nothing like SETI or anything. You use java like for word processors or spreadsheets or random programs that dont require asm speed. It is very snappy when your not trying to find the meaning of life. And look on the web. Its everywhere.
Yeah I'll agree that Java has its uses...but it's being used in some bad ways by some piss poor developers.
A good example is an application my company just purchased--I won't go into details for confidentiality purposes of myself and also the crappy software manufacturers...but basically they used Java to write an ERP application that is used on ships that are out at sea.
This application runs slower than a man with no legs. It's a major piece of crap.

wow, that sucks. I am currently working on www.imjim.com, and we have a version that actually works that we havent released and it runs speedy or faster than aim, the network topology and the way it gets messages where they go is very optomized, secure, and speedy. Cant argue with that. :D

Yeah right. :ph43r: I looked at your blog and saw the pictures of the server. An AMD Duron at 1.7GHz? What a joke....

As long as the 1.7Ghz does the job I say B)
for now the server is actually 400mhz overclocked to 488. I ran several test versions of it and it handled fine with no take on the CPU (like maybe 1% or 2% for the whole java runtime)
It will eventyually have multiple servers. I have people in New Zealand, California, the UK, and ohio who are willing to dedicate bandwidth and a spare computer for hosting this.
I have been using java since I was 12 years old, and the concept behind java is great, and it works.
You may say java is slow, but infact that depends greatly on your cpu.
I wouldnt say PPC is better than x86 though, infact I would say that it is much worse, it deals with floating numbers in a rather odd, slow way and use software controlled memory management, unlike in x86 and other platforms.
