That explains why moving clocks run slowly in comparison to stationary clocks.

Time and the universe are stupid... I hate the universe...

And yes, I know... what I said above isn't exactly right... I don't have the eloquence of writing to make it totally correct.

Nice, but it still doesn't really explain time dilation.  (of which, coincidentally, I studied in science today)

I cared. I just didn't read it thoroughly enough to make sense of what it was saying. ;)

Long story short:

Light moves at the same speed for everyone.  If you are moving with the photon at 90% the speed of light, it is still moving away from you at the speed of light (compared to your speed).

Now, say you are in a train moving at 90% the speed of light...  You have a light clock (a photon bouncing between mirrors).  It takes 100 units to move from bottom, to top, to bottom.
___

___

Now while you are in the train, the photon of light seems to be bouncing straight up and down.

However if you could see in from outside the train at a stationary point, the Photon would be moving in this fashion:
________
.\......../
...\..../
.....\/
---------
As you can see, there is more total distance to travel.  Light still traves at the same speed (to you) as if it was going straight up and down.

So, it now takes 130 units to move from top, to bottom, to top.

However, the people on the train see it as taking only 100 units because to them the speed of the train is already added to the speed of light..  They are seeing the same thing, but time has changed.

The people on the train are moving more slowly in time than the people watching the train.

This has been tested and prooven.

So, in essence, what you're saying is, Time is really a 'thing', just like water, or light, or anything?
btw, it's Dilation, not Dialation.

i know this guy who told me

time is a dimension, and it can be controlled by magnetic fields.
every person has thier own magnetic field that is controlled
by emotions. so he tested it out and did a 2 hour and 15 minute drive
in 1 hour and 30 minutes, NOT breaking the speed limit and no his
speedometer isnt broken because he did it with some people and
when they were awake was taking longer so he told them to go to sleep and they did and he speeded up again.

sorry if i worded it wrong.
