Still not sure how I got invited to this site, Sam added me to messenger for some reason then I started getting iVirtua spam. I am a gamer so figured why not sign up.
I'm into games, any type of game. Card games, board game, dice games, roleplaying games, pc games, console games, puzzel games, tabletop games, wargamers, etc.
I run a website and associated forum dedicated to gaming (of all kinds mentioned above) with a focus on the Windsor Ontario Canada area.
I am also a beer aficianado and work in Quality in the Logistics Industry.
So far I have passed on the 360, not to impressed by it. They need to fix a few issues before I consider one, and by then my savings will probably be marked for a PS3.
Hooked up in my basement currently is a PS2, a NES, an Xbox, a Gamecube. Packed up right now is my N64. System I regret selling the most: Sega Genisis (though it did let me buy a PS1).
Also scattered around the basement are 2 original gameboys, a gameboy colour, 3 gameboy advances, an Atari Lynx and a Sega Game Gear.
You certainly know your stuff about consoles, although what issues has the Xbox 360 got?Im only aware of 360's overheating and its mainly hotter climates where this has been a problem,as the Xbox 360 has quite a basic cooling operation, also very bad lagging probs on Xboxlive.Ive sold over a 100 and no one has sent any back to microsoft yet.Think this was down to the first release batch,Overall a very good console.
First off the whole realse two separate packages thing, the one that works and the one for idoits. Okay this really shouldn't affect how I feel about the system, but it was a piss off when announced.
The 20 Gig hard drive. If you are supposed to use the 360 as your entertainment system with all of your music and video on it, you can't have much of either as 20 Gigs is nothing if you want video of the quality you want to watch on your TV.
The lack of High Def. The promised it and it wasn't delivered. There is talk of the next set of 360s comign out with HDDVD. Basically this means that everyone that bought the original system when it came out is now screwed and has to buy a new system if they want that support.
The fact that it's not truely backwards compatable. To play xbox games you must have xbox live, which means you console must be networked. Then you have to download a patch for each game you want to play (again taking up that hard drive space). Also there are still games out that the 360 doesn't support.
The titles: so far nothing that has been released has looked or played that great. At this point I don't think there is enough support out there. I am hoping this will change but really I buy my consoles for the games. The only reason I own all three is due to exlusive titles like Metroid and Zelda for the 'cube, KotoR and Jade Empire for the Xbox and Final Fantasy for the PS2 (to name a few).
The price. Why are 360 games more then other games? More then PC games, that makes no sense. It's just based on marketing and the 'newness factor', it has nothing to do with them being better games or having better graphics (then P2S yes, PS no).
I could probably go on quite a bit more. But those are my main reasons for not being impressed. Biggest thing that will probably make me pick one up eventually is when the price drops from the 'launch' pricing. Though I figure that won't be until November with the PS3 launches (or soon after).
First of all your issue with the packages my son owns a core system,he's no idiot.
Its all about choice, dont presume that everybody that buys a 360 has the intention of going on Xboxlive or storing their media on the harddrive.Microsoft is well aware that they have loads of customers that dont go on live,so why should they pay extra for a harddrive, wireless controller and headset. But have made easier to upgrade if they do decide at a later date,Its called understanding the customer and giving them a "choice"
Your reference to the 20Gig harddrive, actually once you have updated and you've actually got 13Gigs thats usable, but again I agree with microsoft its all about giving the customer what they want for the price, now if they slapped a 100Gig SATA drive in,this would have affected the price greatly. But in their wisdom they realise that not all people will be happy with 13Gigs but have designed it by letting you stick a removable drive in the usb.Again that word "Choice"
Now the lack of High Definition,no not really my Xbox 360 is giving me a cracking picture on my HD TV,and I dont think that everybody is going to be up for paying for HD DVD'S at this moment in time,as there is cost again involved in this.New technologies take along time to catch on,not everybody is interested.
Compatibility,Most peeps that have bought a core system will own an Xbox 1 so can play their normal games on their old Xbox, and would understand that as they decided to buy the core, again they were given a "choice".As peeps with the premium just update their box with a downloaded patch from live, and the service is free.
Now the Xbox 360 games ,I admit some are mingers, but if you play on COD2 on veteran, you will soon realise that this one of best war games ever created and actually gives realistic game play, and is so hard it gives you a sense of achievement, which I have never felt from any game. And most places sell them for £39.99 there's no difference to me in price.
The launch price is reasonable, you see again Microsoft give you a "choice",and for the technology we've been given is good value. If you remember back to the normal xbox or the ps2 for instance, weve got better value now.
Microsoft have in my opinion done their homework,I actually feels sorry for them as the 360 has now been hacked by way of firmware, and the pirates will soon be on the scene.
