Yes, there are sexual preditors out there, but you would think that someone like this would do that! And if he did, you would think he was smart enough not to give out so much information. Apparently not.

Power itself is not a bad thing.
power in the hands of corrupt people IS a bad thing.

what if there are more of these type of people just not stupid enough to get caught.

We'll probly never know until it's too late.

I disagree.

Power, in and of itself, IS a bad thing.  Many public officials were not criminals before they tasted the sweet honey of power.

How many cops do I know that have done illegal things?  Many.  I've even busted a few myself.  Some would argue that the people need to be predisposed to criminal activities before they get into power.  I don't think so.  I think power can corrupt even the most honorable minds.  That's why I made a vow when I started this profession.  If I ever have an unclean thought of abusing my power, I would resign and find a new line of work.

So far, so good.

I'll tell you right now that the majority of Police Officers are good natured.  Our first duty is the preservation of life.  Only then do we uphold the law.

There are lots of dishonorable officers out there though, and if you've had a run in with any of them, then I apologize.  But I think the ratio of criminals that are politicians (or, more appropriately, politicians that are criminals) are astounding.  They definetly have \"Mens Rea\", or \"A criminal or guilty mind\".

They may have grown up in a Nuclear family, or even in a rich family.  When power comes into play, more is never enough.  They want it all.  Look at all the scandals that are going on right now.  Scooter Libby and the leaking of a CIA operative, Kenneth Lay with Enron, etc.  Literally hundreds of people getting caught.  The only consolation that we have is the way these people are getting caught:  whistle blowers.

Lord Acton, a British historian said it best when he said that:

\"Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely.\"

History has proved time and time again that man is susceptible to corruption by virtue of power alone.

This is an interesting site that plays on power and corruption.

And on a similar note.  This just came out in the news.  Two former NYPD detectives convicted of murder, money laundering and several other charges.

It's a horrible world to live in once you scrape away the bright 'happy' paint covering the slithering underbelly of the world.  That's why I even chose this profession, to help make right the wrongs, whichever side those wrongs may be on, because in my mind, a cop who is a criminal is just that, a criminal.

Most of the people that want to hurt kids may have actually been hurt as a kid. I think that sexual preadators do not have a mental problem and deserve to be locked up forever however.
