From what I've read, Windows is better. The only advantages Macs have, that I can see, is that they look better and are good for media production. Oh, and the whole not getting viruses thing.
I've had a lot of people telling me Macs are better though.. but I can't see why. Post your opinion please.

Nooooooooo... not another.

My opinion:
Windows
If you like getting things done for free/cheap and with a wide variety of options and in the same manner as everyone else.

Mac
If you think you need to be different.
If you need Final Cut Pro.
If you're a mac zealot.

Ok, I'll definitely get a PC then, when I do get a laptop.

It isn't. In a one-on-one, mano-a-mano fight, I'd say Mac OS X trounces Windows XP out of the box. Thing is, it doesn't take much effort or knowledge to make Windows as secure as Mac OS X (for all intents and purposes), and then you have a far more compatible platform.

One might argue that Macs one-up Windows in that they can run both Windows and Mac OS X natively now, but let's face it: That's not a technical issue, that's a Jobsian business issue.

Macs do look good, but... they aren't better for media production. Whoever or... whatever told you that is outright biased. If anything, they do it slightly worse, because of their poor hard drive management system (>5 GB and you get massive, system-wide instability).

That is pretty nice, but considering it takes an hour (an outside guess, at that) to secure a Windows PC for free, I really don't think the Mac Tax is worth it.

Mac zealots are opinionated. For instance, there's a guy at the local Sam's club here (the laptop gnome) is a huge, and retarded, Mac zealot. He talks about his iBook, with a G4 processor, and how it could \"smoke\" all of the PC laptops, with Turion 64's, Pentium M's, Core Duo's, and Turion 64 X2's. Never mind the fact that Pentium 4's will defeat DUAL G4 systems.

*sigh*

Mac zealots.

I thought the name of this topic was \"Mac vs. PC,\" not \"Mac OS X vs. Windows?\"

Pretty much the same thing. And wow Pickle, I've heard that Mac was awesome at movie making and photo editing and all that, but now I know!

Not really.  Like a friend of mine mentioned, Mac has become more of a Dell competitor, and less of a M$ competitor, especially with Boot Camp.

The match between Mac OS X and Windows is an integral part of the \"Mac vs. PC\" debate, no?

For the record, many people have used Macs to great success for bth those tasks. I absolutely hated my experience making movies on a Mac. Really, it was miserable. I'm sure it's a very good platform, but don't believe that \"It just works\" b***s*** for a minute. They don't \"just work.\" If you want or need any help making Windows truly \"work,\" don't hesitate to IM me.
