Microsoft has launched a UK startup fund called the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Programme. It’s designed to work with startups in the UK that are interested in using some of Microsoft’s products, like Silverlight and Live Services, which is Microsoft’s suite of web-based applications.
Five companies have joined the program so far, including EtherDigital’s platform for Internet video , Zebtab’s desktop videoapplication, Corebridge’s CRM tools, ViaPost’s electronic documentdelivery, and Miomi’s mashup for users’ interactive timelines’incorporation of multimedia. This is a similar approach to what Adobehas done with many of its products, including AIR. Sites like Kuler benefit from the early adoption of products in development, and receive funding as well.
This announcement from Microsoft comes on the same day as Adobe’s MAX event, where it’s own new Media Player was revealed, and it’s answer to Microsoft’s software and web-based applications comes in the form of its newly acquired Buzzword. Both companies are looking to increase revenue sharing opportunitieswith partners that utilize their media players and other products.
