Raising the debate above rank and file internet ire, a California chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has weighed in on the debate over the recent Dutch white PSP ads which feature white and black models locked in various aggressive poses.
Comparing the ads to early American minstrel shows, NAACP chapter president Rick Callendar is quoted by GamePolitics as remarking, "it is . . . unacceptable that some corporations still think it is okay to use racially charged media images. The latest Sony ad conjures up bad memories of when stereotypical and offensive images of people of color were accepted means of selling a product." Callendar called on Sony to apologize and discontinue the line of print ads.
