Well, for a basic gaming machine, you do not need an Athlon 64 3000+. Only an Athlon XP is needed. Also, the A64 3000+90nm in U.S. is 130$.

No. I wouldn't recommend the Athlon XP. The Athlon 64 3000+ is a faster CPU & with 64-Bit Gaming support. This is very important to a gamer. :)

The overall price of buying an Athlon 64 3000+ 90nm + the S939 motherboard + high performance graphics card and the RAM needed to take advantage of all the things, would be tremendous.

You could still have the high-end graphics & RAM, run it in dual channel using an Athlon XP3200+, or perhaps an XP-M that is overclocked.

Yes, the Athlon XP 3200+ costs more money than the Athlon 64 3000+.

The only cost would be getting a good 64-Bit nForce 4 Ultra mobo.

Your system will fly with the affordable NVIDIA 6600GT or the ATI X800 XL.

Later. :)

yah...from new egg you can get the 64 3000+ chip for much cheaper than that....and i think it would be better  to put some extra money into like an asus k8n or ram, rather than getting the 3200+

Sounds good, though I would not buy an Asus.
There quality has gone down.  :)

And one of the best Ram's out right now is the OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum Rev 2, 400MHZ DDR
CL 2-2-2-5   1T CR.

It's quite affordable here in Canada @ $359cad for the 1024MB Dual Channel DDR400.
