Hello there,
Well after seeing the GTA IV trailer myself i was amazed. Therefore I've written this preview based on the trailer and some other websites. As you'll understand , I've done very hard work one doing this. Hopefully you'll be kind enough to publish it. Thank you.
When GTAIV was first announced for PS3 and Xbox 360 at E3 2006, everyone was very excited. But no information was unveiled about the game. Just a plain logo was released. But the whole gaming world waited with patience. The hype surrounding it was too much, to be honest. But ages after announcing the game, the day of truth came. On 01/03/2007 the official teaser site for GTAIV was launched. There was a simple big 'IV' in the site. And underneath that there was a counter counting the release of the first trailer for GTAIV. It was due at 29th March. The waiting began again. And history of games advertisement was made. FX-channel aired the longest game-ad ever. Running for full 30 minutes! But gave out almost nothing! The same counter counting out 30 minutes! At last that faithful day came. Everyone was waiting. At the last minutes the Rockstar website couldn't keep the pressure anymore. The server crashed!! Thankfully it was up and running very soon and the world devoured the trailer in amazement. I saw it too…….awestruck.
The first thing you'll notice in the trailer is the graphics. They look absolutely gorgeous! High Definition Range lighting is here, of course. Texture looks very sharp and pretty. The details on the buildings are overwhelming. It does not look cartoony like previous GTAs. Waters looks very convincing with reflection and refractions. And it's also driven by physics. Shadows are unbelievably great. The city (in which you'll be killing hundreds of innocent people) is going to be the Liberty City. Yes it's the same city from GTAIII. But it is bigger. This time the city is an accurate duplicate of New York. The trailer made it obvious by showing some popular structures like statue of liberty (called 'Statue of Happiness' in the game), Times Square etc. The trailer showed off the game's day-night cycle. And the lighting couldn't have been better. The main character of GTA IV is 'Niko Bellic'. He's an Eastern-European in Liberty City who has come to live the American dream. At the end of the trailer Niko was caught saying, "Life is complicated. I killed people. Smuggled people. Sold people. Perhaps here, things will be different." .Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin 'Roman'. Roman will be the only person you know in Liberty City at the beginning of the game. GTA IV will redefine the franchise in many ways. The whole GTA world is now based on a solid physics engine (R.A.G.E). When Niko moves you can actually feel him. The pressure on the ground by his foot, his movements, interaction with the environment feels very real. Variations in the terrain cause realistic changes in the walking animation. In a separate demonstration Niko is seen stealing a car. He doesn't go for the handle. Instead he shatters the glass-window of the car with his elbow and unlocks it from inside. And then he did a quick hot wiring and the car was running in no time. The camera view of the car is now a bit closer to the car then before. The car was very detailed with real time reflections. Pedestrians are far more realistic in GTAIV than in previous GTA games - they sit on benches, smoke cigarettes, read books and generally act like any real pedestrian would in the middle of a street. The police are also very intelligent and hard this time. Rockstar is giving its players more freedom, more choice, and more sense of control over their destiny .You can talk to people in person, by cell phones, and there is a bunch of other ways of giving the player information. In general it's a different experience, with new ways of interacting with the characters and the game world. The cell phone has different functions as well. E.g. maps, address book, Camera and possibly MP3 player. The game has the whole New York City and a part of New Jersey. Broker is the GTA IV equivalent of Brooklyn, Manhattan is now called Algonquin, Queens is now Dukes, the Bronx is Bohan, and New Jersey is Alderney. The map is smaller than San Andreas, but considerably more detailed. Unfortunately there wont be any planes in this GTA (Helicopters are not to be ruled out yet). And the timeline isn't like other GTA games. It's based on 2007's New York. So the cars and different environment elements will be modern. The game is also very efficient with loads. After an initial load sequence, the game will never load again. Not even during exterior-interior transitions. Rockstar has been developing this game for over three years. And I can very comfortably say that they have done a very impressive job. And they're saying that graphical quality will even increase in these months. This smashing game will release on Ps3 and Xbox 360 at 11th October this year. Unfortunately no PC version is yet in existence. One thing is certain. "Things will be Different."
