(from:Gamershell)
In 1986, a massive explosion rocked the Chernobyl power plant, resulting in the worst nuclear disaster in history. Every since, the area surrounding Chernobyl has been plagued by mounting energy disturbances, rendering the region letal to those with even the most advanced protective equipment. In 2012, unauthorized expeditions finally succeed in exploring the region, now known as "The Zone". Among those entering are S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, poachers who risk their lives in search of radiated artifacts that command high prices on the black market. But they are not alone. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. s must avoid the Ukrainian military and fight off mutant creatures that now reside in the region while simultaneously competing against one another for the prized artifacts. One S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will venture deep inside the heart of Chernobyl where "The Zone's" true past and even darker future is revealed.

Features:
- Fight for your life in this 1st-person shooter and role-playing combo game
- Free non-linear exploration of 20 square miles of actual Chernobyl terrain
- Unsurpassed AI offering computer opponents with life-like intelligence
- Immersive plot; 8+ different endings; day/night cycle and weather system
- Intense multi play action supporting up to 32 players

S.T.A.L.K.E.R looks like a good game I saw a review of it some time ago in PC Magazine, I have seen two versions of it one normal and the other like a special features one, does anyone know the difference?

There are many russian games unavailable elsewhere, that are apparently quite good and unique in their own way, according to PC Gamer Magazine a while ago.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is from a Ukrainian developer. When I played it, I thought it had a few strange quirks, but its a pretty good experience in terms of gameplay.

In some ways I think it is overrated, and quite hyped up for what it is; Its hard to describe overall, with a flashy outside but some dull and mundane inner aspects. Just a note; I don't like the way half the map is inaccessible! Its more an "Almost, but not quite" good at first game.

I think the story line of  asecond chernobyl explosion and the effect on the wildlife and laws of physics are pretty cool, and in somre resspects its very similar to Far Cry. Its immersive and open ended.

As is expected of any new game; shown by these screenshots from Gamespot, we can see the good quality graphics and rendering.

I got the game today and personally I think it was overhyped.
The graphics are suberb (especially lightning) and the game has some very original enemies but I absolutely hate the way how they did with the "splitting-up-the-world-in-levels" thing. It takes out all the atmosphere when your creeping out at night trying to get into the sewers while suddenly there comes a loading screen making you wait for 2 minutes.

Just me.

i ² that

the game is really carelessly developed
when you sit around a corner you see the flashlight from one guy in the other room
when you stand behind a door and someone comes in he pushes you thru the door?
i expected mutants and all i get are guys shooting at me

the vains of that guy are fake rly without care
graphics are all blurry kind (yes my pc can handle it perfectly)
