If the RAM is double-sided you may be forced to run a 2T command rate. However, if you really do need 2GB the advantage of having the extra RAM outweighs running at 2T.
Also, in real-world performance the performance impact won't be large.

Non-RevE CPU's (e.g. Winchester) were forced to run at 166Mhz @ 2T. The Venice cores can run at 200MHz, but you are still forced to run 2T.

I'll probably end up getting the 2 gigs but in a year or so when you start needed 3 and 4 gigs, move the 1gig sticks.
It would not lower the quality. It would lower the timings to 2T, which really isn't a problem unless you are an overclocker. As a general rule of thumb, it is better not to use 4x512MB sticks, because Athlon 64's in general have issues when using 4 sticks.
Ugh.
So should I stick with the 1.5gigs until I can buy 2x1gb sticks?

Well, first off I'm new to this place. I've been secretly browsing it for a while I just haven't had the chance to register. BUT here I am and I have a few little miniscule questions :)
When I built my rig about 2 months ago people were all telling me to get 2x512mb sticks of RAM. Something about it running faster. So I orded that initially. I shocked one of my sticks so it died a week or so later leaving me with just one 512 stick. I was thinking about RMA'ing it, but the time it would have taken was not worth the 30 dollars that I was going to loose, aka, I didn't want my PC unusable for a month. So I sucked it up and stuck with the one 512mb stick until Christmas. I recently got 2 more 512mb sticks putting me at 1.5gb.
That some processors lower the performace of the RAM when upgrading to 4 sticks. SO, would my AMD 64bit Athlon 3500+ Venice Core processor, lower the quality of my RAM once I get my last 512mb stick, or will I be okay?
