Slacker, the free Internet radio service, has penned several major deals with big time labels EMI, Universal, and Warner, lending music content to Slacker users for the site's Personal Radio Service. Additionally, Slacker has signed agreements with a handful of indie labels and distributors as well, including IODA, The Orchard, Beggars Group, Matador Records, IRIS, Ubiquity Records and Sanctuary Group PLC.
The company has recently announced a partnership with Sony BMG, and now has agreements with all 4 major record labels for content distribution. With Slacker's personalization tools for radio stations and portable players, music is customized and refreshed via wifi or USB. Add all the newly available indie music on top of that, and it's more than clear that Slacker is broadening the music catalog available to users, and offering more options for its personalized radio service, which, in a manner similar to Pandora, will determine your upcoming tracks based on indicated preferences.
The company has also indicated that a premium radio service will be available soon, which customers will pay for, and enjoy music without ads. In other Slacker news, the company has recently launched a MySpace widget. SpiralFrog is another recently launched music service that offers free downloads. It currently has a deal with Universal Music Group, and several indie artists as well.
