Can anyone think of any symbolism in games?
Your avatar gaining new powers to symbolise puberty?
Rebelling against the system like you might your own father?
Fighting enemies that are inner demons?
Sinking into madness or rising out of depression?
A warzone that's really a disfunctional family?
Well hmm let me think. In Fable the Lost Chapters your hero starts as a child and then becomes a adult when you complete the training at the guild. In Diablo 2 you gain points and new skills as you level up.hmm I can't really see any symbolizm.
I think what he is talking about is games using symbolism to get messages across.
Like the pentagrams in Doom3. they are everywhere.
Or like the messages of good vs evil in many games (Halflife and Halflife 2)
where you are the single hero to save humanity from the overwhelming evil.
