THQ has signed a deal with Marvel Entertainment to develop a series of titles based on the Hasbro toy line for kids, Marvel Super Hero Squad. The first game is due out in 2009 and will be developed by THQ for all systems. The line of Marvel Super Hero Squadtoysare a series of action figures roughly 2 inches in height that featuresuper-distorted, caricature-like representations different MarvelUniverse characters.
"Marvel is one of the true crown jewels in the entertainment industryand we are thrilled at the prospect of both building the Marvel SuperHero Squad brand and further developing our relationship with Marvel," said THQ CEO Brian Farrell in a statement.
While nothing else was announced about this new series of games, itseems safe to assume that it will be more kid-oriented than most othersuperhero games. I wouldn't be too surprised if it had a similar styleto Spider-Man: Friend or Foe.Of course, this isn't the first time THQ has been involved withcomic-based games, as the publisher has put out games based on the Teen Titans, The Punisher, Swamp Thing, and the Hellblazer comic series in the past.
