Xbox’s quest to become the console of choice for families will be givena huge boost by becoming the first system to offer a library of 1,000games this summer.
That’s according to Xbox VP for MicrosoftInteractive Entertainment Europe Chris Lewis, who this week told MCVthat Xbox Live will be a key weapon in tempting mainstream consumersaway from PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii in the coming months.
"We’llhave north of 1,000 games on 360 by the summer, across Live and boxedproduct," VP of Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Europe Chris Lewistold MCV.
"Titles such as our sports games, Scene It! andGuitar Hero – which has become a preferential experience on Xbox 360 –has already proved that, and we have lot more coming in that space thisyear.
Inany case, the 360 is poised to beat the 800+ titles the Xbox originalhad by reaching the 1000 mark this summer, according to Chris Lewis,Xbox VP for Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Europe. Along with thatlong title comes the truth, supposedly, and summer is a nice playingground for those big numbers since the kids are off from school and usworking folk decide its too hot to work so much.
Also, Mr. Lewispointed out that the 360 has the best games of any console, and that'swhy it'll win this console war. That's like saying "yeah, this book isbetter than that one because ours has a better story." That's typicallyhow things work...when someone picks up a console, they look at thegames. At least that's Microsoft's take on it.
They aren'twrong...the 360 certainly has about too many good titles over the PS3,and in some cases (cough cough Madden 08 cough cough) even the samegame is better on it. But you don't have to be the Xbox Europe boss toknow that. It must be the price cut that's getting to him.
Itseems like Microsoft isn't exactly taking into consideration the factthat some people do use their PS3's as media players, especially inEurope now that you can record and watch TV through it. I would besurprised to find that the price cut for the 360 changes much if thebig MS doesn't step up and make their console a media whore likeSony's, because I sure as heck would want one.
