ok i couldn't find a forum for optical drives...so i'm just putting it in general...but anyway

i can't decide between this NEC dvd burner and this Lite On dvd burner

NEC Burner

Lite On Burner

now..the nec is oem and duzn't come with any software...but ppl have been saying it's a good drive...i have a lite on cd burner and it works beautifully for me...but ppl say the lite on burner is LOUD....BUTTT it comes with burning software (it's retail, the NEC is OEM) anybody have any suggestions?? i don't wanna buy software..so i'm swaying towards the lite on unless the nec is that much better...cuz i can find a way to d/l something...

Moved to General Hardware

Awesome deals on 16x dual layer DVD/RW drives. I, however, would take the Lite On. Many of my friends have Lite On, and they work perfectly.

Other good companies include Plextor & Sony.

True. Sony is excellent, but price is the deciding factor. I would recommend buying the Lite On DVD burner.

I would recomend the lite-on. If you happen to find an OEM lite-on drive they should come with the software also, just no box. I have been using a lite-on DVD burner for about 2 years now without much trouble (I tend to buy cheap media).
