The Zalman looked very promising, but from this review the TT Big Typhoon performs better.  I guess TT did a much better job then I thought.

Here is the review.
http://www.overclockers.ru/lab/19897.shtml

It is in german, but you don't have to read it.  Just look at the results.

http://www.overclockers.ru/images/lab/2005...agr_fan_off.png

So, according to this comparison the Zalman isn't what it was it was supposed to be.  In the first case the Big Typhoon beats the Zalman @ max RPM by 6C with case fans on and by 4C with case fans off while under full load via S&M.

Here is also a review of the TT Big Typhoon:

Quote:
I was incredibly surprised with the performance results the Thermaltake Big Typhoon delivered. I have been using the XP-90 for some time I was never able to break 300 x 9 Prime95 stable regardless of the voltage applied. The Thermaltake Big Typhoon has let me push to 304 HT x 9 with less vcore (1.53v) and it’s Prime95, Super PI 32M and OCCT stable. I’ve gained a slight performance bump in my overclock and am able to do it with less voltage – it’s almost like I went to water cooling! The load temps have never broken 41 deg c even at 304 HT. Personally, I am amazed with the performance the Thermaltake Big Typhoon was able to achieve, until now I was reluctantly considering water cooling to cap those 50+ deg C load temps but with the TT Typhoon I no longer desire to go that route.

So the Big Typhoon is cheaper, has been available for months, cools RAM and the surrounding area of the CPU socket, and performs better then the Zalman.  The only downfall is that it is huge and wieghs quite a bit.  Just look at this picture.

Wow, that is huge.  I think I'll be sticking with just an XP-90, but I have seen people be able to squeeze around another 50MHz out of their X2's by switching to the TT Big Typhoon.

Nice review.  I've been looking at possiblly getting the Titan Vanessa L-type.  But, that's only if I can find a seller with it.
But, instead, do you think I should get the Thermaltake Big Typhoon?  If so, do you have a price on that?

From reviews I have seen it doesn't perform too well.

The Vanessa or the Thermaltake?  Because, the thermaltake did quite well in the review that you posted.

Yeah, I was suprised that it did as poor as it did.  I thought, with the heatpipes, and the huge heatsink, it would do well.  I guess not.

Ok, I found the TT Big T at newegg for about $48.  I think I might get it, as long as surfjunky pays me. ;)

Wow, the sonic tower looks really good.  Plus it's cheaper.  Maybe I'll go with that instead, as long as it would fit in my case.

The Zalman CNPS9500 performs well if you have the fan facing the front of the case, so that the exhaust gets sucked out by a rear case fan. I know quite a few people who have the 9500 in this orientation, and the HSF gives mid-level watercooling results on their PIV Prescotts. These people get around 28C idle on their 3GHz Prescott and about 37C load. That's amazing for air cooling, especially with Prescotts.
