If we take a look at the lifespan of the GameCube you can't really say it's one of the best things ever happen from Nintendo. They did set new standards in gameplay with it but most of the time it was the same boring old games just looking a bit nicer. Now before you start screaming don't get me wrong I'm a Ninty fanboy all my life and will be for the rest of it but let us take a loot at what the GameCube did for us all. We had some great new industry standards like the evolution of the Metroid series to a semi first person shooter. It looked great and although some were very sceptical over the controls, the game did a fine job in that area. Some new franchises were born and ported to the cube for obvious reasons like the Wario Ware franchise. Whoever thought that just having 300 very, come on really simple! mini games could be so much fun. Don't forget these games sold some hefty numbers in the retail stores just for being a fresh new idea which everybody could pick up and play
.
I for one think that was a small start for the turning of Nintendo. They kept making some great GameCube games which in turn gave reason for great controversy and speculation about who had the better equipment. In the end it was still the GameCube who was most powerful when you take a look at the specs. But what was wrong with it that they had great games nobody wanted to play? The gameplay was great and the sounds were all too familiar, but lacking some great visuals. Metroid was one of the first games who had some great visuals and don't forget what kind of visuals Wind Waker had. Forget about how kiddie it looks but think about how Nintendo dare to take a step in new design. Keep this in mind when you think about what happened and how the cube will leave the stage.
Ever when Nintendo decided to make the games more appealing to the masses you've seen more games for girls, more games for the elderly and heck even more kiddie games. And in between they released some new hardware for the most newest of games. And not forgetting some hardware for the fashion junkies. These systems really did well for Nintendo and seeing how much games are coming out this year on those platforms makes me weep for the GameCube. The list for it is sow short I can't feel but sorry Nintendo and other third parties never really took any advantage of the power the GameCube has. It can do some really great stuff. Take a look at this list and you know why:
Metroid Prime (first person shooter)
Resident Evil 4 (atmosphere)
Wario Ware Inc. (gameplay)
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (cell shading)
Animal Crossing (real time based)
Wavebird (first wireless controller)
GBA-link (connectivity)
And now in the end it will perform one great stunt before leaving the stage and making place for the new Revolution. It's a shame really to have a title that will take everything the GameCube has in it out for display. We will have to wait for around somewhere November for this title but all know what I'm talking about. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be the biggest baddest game ever created for the GameCube and it saddens me to say it will also be the last from Nintendo for the GameCube. They will give us the title we always wanted, screamed for, hoping to get it by Christmas but none were heard and now with the Revolution set they will give it to us. Showing us all once and for all what the GameCube can really do.
Hoping, still hoping for GameCube it will go out with a bang and show the world how a true release is done giving all gamers around the world the title to play for within 3 weeks apart. Is Nintendo pulling this of or not? Who can say? The only thing we can do is hope and have faith that in the end the GameCube will go out with a bang!
