You dont need any special modifications to your ps2 to play dvd's that you have burnt, it's perfectly possible to do it by just decrypting a ps2 dvd, then compiling it into a rom then burning it correctly or decrpyting it.. and then running a bootloader on the ps2 to boot it.

To do this, you will need DVD Decrypter and Swap Magic (version 3)

DVD Decrpytor can be obtained from here, however it is no longer being developed.

Swap DVD is commercial/shareware, the site can be found here

I wouldnt really waste your money buying a ps2 now, as there are unlikly to be any great games.. you should keep your money for when the ps3 comes out.

I recently sold my ps2 as I knew that there would be no new great games for ps2, however I'm not sure if I want to continue gaming in consoles.. it's not as good as it used to be.. I hope ps2 emulation advances though.. as atm it sucks :(

360 is going to destroy the PS3.  Currently the PS2 has no good titles that weren't also released for the Xbox and the online gaming is terrible compared to Live.

You sound like a casual gamer so I'd have to suggest the Xbox 360 and don't waste money on a PS2 now.

I hope thats a joke.

Without the games that evolved on PS2 and PS1, the whold industry wouldn't be like it is today, and thus the xbox would of never of even existed, as the market would not of been big enough.

It's games like GTA 3 which ended up in hundreds of thousands of people rushing out to buy the PS2, and let's face it.. Bill's dream of getting 1 billion online gamers using the xbox live system by 2007 will not happen, even in a hundred years

As far as I am concerned - there are only two competitors, Sony and Nintendo. Xbox is just a new age phase, just like the dreamcast was. It'll be abandoned sooner or later.. whenever gamers realise ps2 mplay is free, and xbox mplay costs money and sucks at the same time!

Saying that, I will be buying an Xbox next year. But it won't be for gaming, and it wont be from the shops. It'll be from eBay, and I'll be hacking it up.

I agree with you. The xbox defintly has better games on it. the playstation has a lot more, but not very many quality games.

Just because playstation and nintendo really started the whole \"gaming age\", doesn't mean that they are better than anything new... You can't deny that the xbox has much better graphics than the PS2 and Gamecube. In my opinion, there are also many more good games on xbox. And the good ones on PS2, you can get for xbox as well (with the exception of a few, but there are many on xbox that you can not have on PS), so why not have better graphics at the same time?

Having a billion xbox live users by 2007 is a bit of a dream, but it is something for microsoft to shoot for. And I have not seen any sign of a internet gaming system by sony or nintendo that will compete with xbox live at all.

You say that xbox live sucks. You don't even own an xbox. Don't talk about things you don't know about.

I've also seen so many people say that the PS3 is going to be better than the 360, because it has slightly better hardware. Hardware is nothing if the game can't utilize it. By the time that we are going to need that extra power, next generation counsils are going to be out.

Enough said.

Well now every GTA game is coming out for Xbox also.  The only thing that PS2 had was Killzone (which is nowhere near as good as Halo 2) and Final Fantasy.  Now that those are going to Xbox (not sure about Killzone) PS2 doesn't have much.  The online system is very unorganized and even though it is free, I'd rather pay to have Xbox Live.

I'll be buying 2 360's and hacking one up.

Wait till the 360 is released to buy a PS2.  Prices on it will drop to try and keep up demand.  Then you can get the console and a bunch of games nice and cheap. :P

Personally, I am with Sony. PS3 will rule.

And Halo gets boring after a while. There really isn't much of a plot to it. Most XBOX fan boys only play Halo on XBOX, nothing else.
