The Associated Press has released its list of the worst games of the year, and while the games listed certainly touch on some of 2007's lowlights, the list may be a little harsh.

Take, for example, Manhunt 2. Am I tired of hearing about it? Sure. Am I tired of writing about it? Undoubtedly. This is a game that had gallons of ink spilled about it in both the mainstream press and online, and the only reason was the violence and the rating system. At the heart of all the talk is a title that is actually a good time. It's not great, but it certainly didn't deserve the ire directed at it. Worst game? Please. It's just a mediocre title that left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

Same thing with Lair. It was a disappointment, it wasn't good, but it was playable and had a few moments of fun here and there. It's far from the worst game of the year, and probably doesn't even belong on the top ten list. There are other, far more fitting titles than Lair.

The rest of the list is equally confusing. Heavenly Sword was most disappointing? I will agree that the Tony Hawk series needs to die, or at least to get back to its roots, especially with the impressive skate now on the market.

The problem with lists like these is that they tend to contain recent games, and they tend to be made up of games the writer is tired of hearing about, not the actual worst games. Luckily, most of the real stinkers didn't get much press. Somehow, I can't find it in myself to complain.
