I think the game was very good. It was defintely better than 1942. It's one of the most realistic war games out there. It just lags alot BUT if it didn't it would have been t3h 0wnz

BF2 probably has some of the best gameplay design/mechanics to date, but it all runs atop one of the most poorly written engines to date.  I think they should really leave engine development to the pros.  This way they will get to the market faster and it would be a much better product.

The gameplay and concept is great, but actually getting it to work it another thing.

The specs needed are specs that many people don't have, and even with those specs it's still laggy at time (especially with 64 players, and possibly soon to be 100)

Hopefully the new patches that are coming will improve performance as well as making the game and server browser much better :D

Me neither, but from what I've heard, it's pretty good.

It's not right to say it sucks when you haven't played it. Just don't vote next time.

Edit: Kathrn to answer your question, try connecting an ethernet cable from the computer you play BF 2 to the router. That took out about 85% of the lag!

I do agree.  Maybe there should be a poll option for if you have not played it?

Umm, I'm not sure how that would help at all, but it doesn't solve the problem that the netcode for BF2 just sucks.

Well my router is good. I can use browsers really well but games lag tooo much. But that's because my router is like... 20 ft away. And it's acting up BUT since we have a cable directly connected, we have the best connection!

You can still optimize the speed of direct connections if you buy a CAT6 or CAT7 cable.

Using a CAT6 or CAT7 cable as opposed to CAT5e will make no difference in performance as your connection will not utilize the higher frequencies.

It makes a big difference when in long distance, but not at short distances.

I don't have a router attached to the system I play BF2 with. I have a direct connection from my usb port, into my modem, and then cat cable all the way until it reaches the connection terminal (all other games work fine)

And as kooldrew said, the netcode for BF2 (currently) sucks. and I think it's got memory leaks and such too. (hopefully it will all be fixed in the next patch!)

And yes, BF2 is an amazing game. when you can play it and get immersed (in other words, no lag)

I highly doubt that.  It may improve a bit, but it is EA after all.  They are geniuses when it comes to gameplay, but they really need to leave the engine development to the pros.
