Ever since it debuted last August, the hit 2K Games first-person shooter BioShockhas been cited by gamers and industry pundits alike as source materialthat's ripe for a Hollywood adaptation. Now a new report suggests thatsuch a film may be indeed on the horizon.
According to Joystiq.com, "A reliable source within a major filmproduction company has told Joystiq that the two have been gettingalong famously, with a movie adaptation of 2K's successful franchisealready being discussed by the Big Daddies internally."
The site adds,
Quote:
"The studio hopes to bring the fallen aquatic utopia ofRapture to celluloid life through extensive use of green screentechnology, an approach not dissimilar to Legendary Pictures'interpretation of 300.If the computer generated approach is deemed feasible and fitting, thefocus can then shift to capturing BioShock's secondary (anduninhabited) characters."
BioShock is a unique game that mixes a spine-chilling settingillustrated with art deco art and architecture, sci-fi themes ofbio-genetic mutation and self-modification, a deep storyline withopen-choice freedom to interact with the world, and first-person actionthat requires you to think every time you pull the trigger.
After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover arusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath thesea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group ofscientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Nowthe city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam thecorridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutatedcitizens ambush you at every turn.
