To break it down, the PS3 can perform twice as many operations per second than the XBOX 360 can. And seeing as the new XBOX is impressive on it's own, Sony's feat is amazing. The Cell processor is a major technical feat.
The graphics capability are said to be the best and most advanced in the world. The GPU found in the PS3 is equivalent (if not better than) to two of the latest NVidia graphics cards, which would cost the consumer $1000. To put this into a games console is amazing.
The new console also is capable of having 7 controllers connected via BlueTooth. 7. Yes, Seven. It is also backwards compatable with PS and PS2 games (emulated by the Cell), so you can play all your old favourites on the new system.
To be honest, the games are what really showcase the console at the moment, until more technical details are released.

THE HOT QUESTION AT E3 is not how to scam a t-shirt or get a free game, it is about the consoles. Since they have been shown, sort of, to the press, performance questions are all the rage. Bench racing and Star Trek physics are the order of the day, no one has a clue about the answers, but if you weigh over 300 pounds, and have poor enough hygiene, you too can be very loud when arguing about consoles. Rather than take that approach, I went to the source and asked people who have them. Details are scarce, and the hardware is still a bit rough, but one clear pattern emerged. The PS3 is faster, the Xbox 360 is easier to deal with.
The tools wizards at MS came through this time and made for a better out of the box experience for devs. MS has put a lot of time and effort into this, from XNA to hand holding, so coupled with a more conventional architecture, it wins round one.
The PS3 has more raw horsepower under the hood, but is a bitch to use until you can wrap your brain around some very different paradigms. Once you can do this, the PS3 will take the lead and probably keep it for the life of the console. Like the last set of consoles, the initial crop of titles will not be all that astounding, but the second ones will.
So all the black shirts so far agree, MS has the ball right now, from coming out first to leading the initial charge. Sony is coming up behind, strongly, and will take the lead back in 2006. Then again, the consoles won't be out for at least 6 months to a year, and that is a long time. Anything can happen, place you bets, and get in line for a shirt. ?
I would still put my money on ANY Japanese company as opposed to one being American. Also, Sony has much more resources. Microsoft only makes software and XBOX. Sony makes desktops, laptops, stereo systems, phones, you name it.
So, let's get the flame wars going.
Sony Playstation 3 VERSUS Microsoft XBOX 360
I vote *Playstation 3.

Microsoft's XBOX-360 will dominate quickly for about a year. This system will look quite favorable to many & with the help of Microsoft?s advertising ;)
Sony's system will be faster, but will suffer do to it being too advanced for it's time, so developers will have to work hard to bring it up to par with the Xbox 360.
In the end, the PS3 unfortunately will most likely win in the long run. :guh:

Unfortunately? Don't tell me we have an XBOX fan boy here? :r:

I have to admit that console gaming like Sega Dreamcast, XBOX & Playstation are easier to play because of the joystick & you can always sit on a comfortable couch or something.
But nothing beats the graphics of PC gaming ;) I SEE XBOX 360 Winning so far B)

Microsoft already own everything else in computing, so I dont think they should win in console wars.. hopefully one day they will leave the console battlefield :P

Anyways.. that simply means I'm rootin' for ps3.
You have a point there. The same goes with Intel. They have made themselves the computing standard. This is obviously wrong & is being changed by AMD, HP, IBM & many other companies which want fare competition.
So, good point. But XBOX did make Microsoft loads of money, so this is quite favorable to them right now. We shall see what happens when they both go head to head.
And Sega is also coming out with a new system which is supposed to make the PS3 look old. LOL :yammer:
