Question:

What is intelligence? Where did it come from? What caused it? These are all questions that many have been pondering for many years. No one person has been able to give a full explaination though. Whether we will ever know the truth remains to be seen. However, your opinion matters. Give it your best shot to answer these questions.

Most of it is genetic, I believe. But then, intelligence isn't something you're born with either. You acquire it from reading, etc.

There are two types of intelegence. Knowledge and Wisdom. Knowledge is something you aquire as time goes by. Wisdom is something you are born with. Wisdom is like having a natural talent to process information faster than a normal man.

I agree with you about Knowledge.  But, I think you can gain in Wisdom, also.  Just think, when you were a baby, I don't think you had near to what the Wisdom you have now.
I think Wisdom goes right along with your conscience.  You know you shouldn't do something, and that comes from your conscience, and shows Wisdom.

It comes from your personal experience.  If your parents raise you as a baby by having you read and draw you will be intelligent and creative.  If they have you play a lot of sports you will be more athletic.

It uh... it really depends.

Rene Descartes believed that we were all given our intellgence and wisdom at birth, while David Hume believed that intelligence came from experience.  I tend to agree with Hume's analysis of where our \"personalities\" and \"intelligence\" came from ... in that, I think they come from experience. Us reacting on stimuli will be recorded in our minds. I.E, if you burn yourself, you make sure not to let your skin come in contact with very hot items in the future, doing so damages the body which is interpreted by us as \"pain.\"

It all depends. What intelligence are you talking about, exactly? The intelligence that some presuppose differentiates us from animals? Or are you talking about the human consciousness?

Either. In my opinion they overlap into the same thing.

I would like to correct myself. Intelligence is almost never genetic. However, the ability to learn quickly is in many cases, genetic.

Well, kind of.  You'll often see a family that has alot of scientists, or football players, or computer engineers, or builders, or writers, etc.  So, in a way, it's how fast you learn, but it's really how fast you are able to learn one certain thing.  So, in essence, intelligence is often genetic.

Good point, though this could be more influential than genetic.

I didn't think about that.  That probably does hve a bit to do with it, too.
