Since it is Christmas, and this has been a big topic in the news lately, I want to know what you guys think about \"The War on Christmas.\" If you do not know what The War on Christmas is, it is basically about the rights to celebrate Christmas openly, saying \"Merry Christmas\" to people, etc.
If your a proper Christian, you should be saying merry Christmas. Christians are supposed to spread their faith.
I have never run into someone who is a non-Christian who was offended by hearing Merry Christmas. Only people who think others will be offended in my experience.
I don't see a reason for people having a problem with Christmas. It was started by Christians, so if people don't like the name, they shouldn't like the whole holiday.
not to mention the right of freedom of the press and speech. and if they want to argue that i can just call christmas ceremonial deism.
btw if anyone says that merry christmas cant be classified under freedom of speech, just say well look at pornograhpy the only reason it's legal is because of freedom of speech so if pornography is legal under the same right merry christmas should definintly allowed.
also lots of these arguments are based on the seperation between church and state letter from thomas jefferson to the annabaptist. Its not an amendment its not law, it's not the rules its a letter.

Christians didn't 'create' the holiday. It is a holiday to praise Jesus's birth, but I get what you meant.
I believe that stores removing 'Merry Christmas' signs from their premises is just an invasion of our rights as it is theirs. I say, either say nothing, or stick with what formed our county (U.S.A.).
Oh, and the reason I had the banner say Season's Greetings instead of Merry Christmas, is not because of other religions, it's because I wanted to include New Year's in it but I may make a banner specifically for it. ;)
Plus think of this our founding fathers George Washington and others they wanted a peaceful nation now look. The athiest want to take Christamas out and put in happy holidays. If I was old enough I would go to court sewing them sayingtaht our founding fatheres found this country and we should be happy taht we live in a freedon country. But the athiest now and days just can't be to say and just wan't to get rid of christian belfiefs.psychoarmykid

That's how I feel, too. We're basically trying to keep the country the way it was intended, by keeping the name Christmas, but they don't care about what the Founding Fathers wanted.
First of all, Psycho, you're a little misguided in your depiction.
It's not only athiests who want it changed. It's mostly the other denominations of religions. Since there are more than just Christians in this country, they feel that they should have the right to be told 'Happy Holidays' just like Christians are greeted by 'Merry Christmas'. And honestly, their rights are protected. I don't necessarily agree with it, but that's how it is. I grew up being told 'Merry Christmas' my whole life, and I'd like it to stay that way...but it doesn't really hurt my feelings to be told 'Happy Holidays'. All in all, it's basically saying the same thing to me. As an officer of the law, everytime I go to work I have to make sure that I don't trample on people's basic rights [or I'd find myself in VERY hot water] and the Government is basically doing the same. That's why this country is great. Our Rights granted to us by the Constitution. [more specifically, the Bill Of Rights]
Everyone has to realize that the main reason these big companies moved away from the whole Christmas thing is because they didn't want to lose any business. But by doing so, they lost business from Christians that are upset. So what happens? Revenue sales drop and the economy as a whole suffers.
In a nutshell, I think the media made a much bigger story of it than it really was. The smaller denominations hurt the whole country by pushing the issue [also partly the ACLU - American Civil Liberties Union, who is representing the minority of denominations.]
It's a give and take situation. Call it Quid Pro Quo if you like. The only problem is, too many are trying to take and none are trying to give. It's really gone beyond anyone's control now though. Next year will be much, much worse.

No, the ACLU just stands for no Christian Religions. They don't represent any denomination (or at least no Christian denomination)
Agreed. and i think the way some schools r banning it and crazy stuff like that i think if ur kids schol says happy christamas and the parent freak out about it then they shouldnt keep there kids in that school i mean big deal if ur athiest or sumthing u dont have to freak out about it or anything. just ignore or say it back to be polite ya know wat i mean?
well its like going over to pakistan and telling them that your offended when they celebrate mohommad and you want them to say happy holidays. if they say no you might be offended but you can't go changing people's culture just because it offends you.
Yeah, same here. Just cause I'm Christian doesn't mean I have totally ignore other religion's holidays. I might not agree with why they are what they are, but I'll sure wish them a happy whatever-the-occasion-is.
