Two stories of games facing their own sets of regional challenges today as both Dead Rising and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas have recently run up against local opposition.
First up, Dead Rising's admittedly over-the-top but nonetheless tongue-in-cheek and comical violence against the undead has raised eyebrows with Germany's ratings board, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle. The board recently refused to give the game a rating, raising its own spectre of a decreased chance of sales within the country without modifications to the game to somewhat tone it down.
Meanwhile, the latest in the Rainbow Six series has come under fire in Las Vegas, with the governor and other city officials seeking to fight the stateside release of the game this year for somewhat unclear reasons. Mayor Oscar Goodman has been quoted as saying the game, which simulates a terrorist strike on the City of Lights, is operating under a "false premise," and "could be harmful economically," with a local municipal board entering into an investigation on the game to see whether it violates any of the city's copyrights.
this is almost as crazy as Sony trying to Ban sale of second hand PS3 which of course there not allowed but they did try! and they also tryed to make it so you didnt go to the shop and buy the game you downloaded them and they only worked on your PS3
but anyway thats just stupid not allowing a game that fights the undead and one that is set in a city *sigh* what is the world coming too?
there not allowed to do it in britain its illegal i was reading about it in GamesTM and it is illegal to do it in most countrys something about owners right to sell property
That is really wierd but usally preowned computer games is illegal. Now video games are a different story as places like EB and gamestop thrive on that kind of stuff. I guess it means less bussiness for places like that. I supposed It is not all a bad thing.
