I run a HIS x1650 512mb in my games and webbrowsing machine and it seems to run everything fine, even ArmA on medium settings. Considering it was only a hundred quid I'd say it was a bargain.
ArmA - Armed assault, successor to Operation Flashpoint.
I can run BF2 with almost everything on high but that machine doesn't have alot of memory (768mb PC3200) so I only get about 20-30fps with everything on high and lighting and terrain on med @ 1024x768 but I took some memory out of my workstation to see how it ran with 2gb of RAM and the difference was considerably better getting 40-60 fps.
i have an eVGA nvidia 6800gt pci-e....i run cs 1.6, cs:s, and world of warcraft on max settings no problem...so anything pci-e would be a good investment, but only newer motherboards have them...are you looking for a pci, agp, or pci-e? if your computer is a couple years old and not custom built, you either have a pci or agp slot that holds your video card, so find out that first then we can help you better
I have an NVidia 7900 with a reasonable amount of video RAM (cant remember how much... 256mb or 512mb). I can run most new games fine - e.g. BF2, BF2142 and Oblivion with high graphics settings.
If you're going to increase graphics settings, I'd recommend ugrading your RAM I have 2GB RAM, which is good enough to play any game out there.
The last time I upgraded, when a game I wanted required pixel shading, I put in an Club 3D GeForce 6600 256Mb AGP 8x card DVI VGA in (I still haven't got around to PCI Express ) It works with my Dell UltraSharp™ 2007WFP 20.1" Widescreen LCD.
