i have an onboard sound card (i will tell u which one later today...i'm kinda late as is...) but iw as wondering if the soundblaster 2zs (orw/e it's called) is really THAT much better than normal onboard sound
Not so fast. If you are an \"avid\" gamer, which I think you are since you're so into CS, then Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS is perfect for you. No point in buying Platinum or Platinum Pro because it's not worth it. Plus with the 2 ZS, I believe you get like 5 games (ie Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider, etc.).

Also, the sound card is only as good as your speakers are.
On-board sound is O.K. but the only integrated sound I know of which comes very close to the Audigy series is NVIDIA's Sound Storm from there nForce 2 chipset.
So Yes, go Audigy.

Agreed, *unless* you have Nvidia Sound Storm.

I know thats why i dont use on board but is it worth the $150.00 for him to upgrade. I dont think unless he has like me 7.1 full THX sound systemv will mAKE A DIFRENCE. nice card means having nice speakers lol. My speakers cost me $385.00 lol but damb the sound is amazing.
$150 for the card???!?!? and after a while i'll need to get new speakers? i have 4 altec lansings, bought them a LONGG time ago...back when i had my voodoo3 card...lol (over 4 yrs) i def don't wanna spend over 200 on a sound card n speakers....
lol....that'll be NEVER...but i'm so tempted to buy new speakers right now anyway....cuz my board supports 7.1 audio...ahhh..damnit...but like the way my room is setup...i can't place the speakers correctly as to get the most benefit out of them...
