A note to anybody which does not know about what happened to me in the Valve Forums.

I came up with an amazing topic regarding Half-Life 2, (Why Should We Accommodate Our PC?s For Half-Life 2?) in the Valve Forums. And to my surprise, I received 100?s of replies in a matter of a day or so. And I had some credible points laid for this topic which I created.

What does Valve do? They deleted my topic completely without any warning. So much for Valve being professional. I did have respect for them & I still do, but the questions I presented along with my 100?s of replies still remain un-answered.

If my memory serves me well, I basically said in short, why should each & individual person who wants to play Half-Life 2 needs to change there PC settings, remove or replace there RAM, replace there HD or disable one of them, adjust Paging Files, can?t OC & play, change AGP 8X to 4X, etc X 1000.

This is what I said but in a cleaner & presentable way. It?s Obvious that Valve could not answer these questions. If they could, then they wouldn?t have deleted my extremely popular but short lived Topic.

O.K.

This is crazy, but read what happened to this poor guy who wanted to play Half-Life 2 on his SUPER SYSTEM which we are probably going nut?s for right now.

AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 @ 2.60GHz

Extreme Water Cooling System

MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum
OCZ EL Platinum L-Edition DDR433 1024MBx4 CAS2.0 (Dual Channel) (4096MB)
Sapphire Radeon? X800XT Platinum 256MB GDDR3 w/ VIVO
Samsung SyncMaster 213T 21.3\" LCD Display
Enermax EG851AX-VH 650W Dual CPU MB Power Supply
Maxtor 600GB S-ATA w/ 16MB cache (300GB x 2 w/RAID 0)
Maxtor 200GB S-ATA w/ 16MB cache (Back Up Drive)
LG GSA-4163B 16x DVD+/-RW, Dual Layer
Pioneer DVR-108 16X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer
LG 52X CD-RW/16X DVD-ROM Combo
Etc. I hope I got it right. This is what I remember in the Valve Forum.

Now, this guy could not play Half-Life 2 for the life of him, so he had to take out one 1024MB DDR Ram, & disconnect the 200GB HD, in order for him to play Half-Life 2.

This to me is 100% unacceptable & ridiculous. He says that he can play every game on this earth with this system, except for Half-Life 2.

Tell me this guys, if you spent money on a awesome system like this one, would you be ticked off if you had to start removing components just to play Half-Life 2??????????????????????????

I know I would????????And there are many more like this guy having problems. Many are having problems with the Intel Prescott's & many with the Athlon 64's. Even the Athlon XP systems for goodness sakes.

I just played half life 2 for the first time sense I bought my new mother board and new 3500+ with 640k cash 2 days ago. It crashed 3 times from memory errors. I spent 30 min in bios fine tuning my over clock and it runs like a dream now.

wow...aren't i happy that i didn't get HL2...i'm a big CS fan...and that would have allowed me to play cs source....but that's really messed up how valve has very SPECIFIC requirements to play one game.....

but nonetheless, i've heard of plenty of ppl building new machines JUST TO play HL2.....so i don't think valve would really care that much...

if in my bios overclock is auto(AMD64 3500+) A8V mobo, did this can be a problem for HL2....

as i tell in many other forum   i got black screen, random, when i play HL2, CS S,

some say it is my radeon 9800 that overheat other say it is driver prob.... i have lastest. i will copy here what i explain in other forum. maybe i will find better help here.

Radeon 9800pro and Black screen
First i know that already lot of Topic exist about that. i want to try to get ALL ppl come here and we find WHY this happen. i explain my situation.

When HL2 come out i buy silver pack, install it and play it, finish it WITHOUT PROBLEM.

my spec at this timespec that is pertinant for game)

P4 1.7
512 ram
Radeon 9800Pro 128MB
win XP (NO SP2)
MOBO = 4X

Yesterday i get my new computor, i installed normal stuff, and installed STEAM, and all other game. i wanted to replay HL2 with better graph fps etc.

but at some point(random) my screen, yes like some of you, become black and i must reboot. it is same for CS S. for now i dont know about other game but i will try.

MY PRESENT SPEC:

AMD64
A8V mobo
1GIG RAM
Radeon 9800Pro 128MB(SAME CARD)
Win XP WITH SP2
MOBO = 8X

So i use the same card. and i played HL2 without any probleme befor and now this.... ALL DRIVER are the lastest one. DX 9.0c installed. So for now i think it is a overheated problem. it is the more LOGIC reason why this can be happen. so did the fact that it is a 8X now can help to overheat , if i change it for 4X(in bios setting IF IT IS POSSIBLE) will help to resolve this. i thin to buy 2 fan for inside the box too

so DID ANY ONE have try to get an answer from ATI

and did anyone have resolve this probleme WITHOUT ANY HARD WARE STUFF, so this may tell that is NOT an HW problem

next week i will try reinstall all driver, and unistall ?\"old\" one befor. but befor i will install another big game and see if it is happen to.

AI over clocking has a bad habit of causing problems. I have not seen a auto over clock pick the right settings yet. I highly recommend you manual over clock. We would be happy to help you do this. I hear a lot of people complain about HL2 but I know for a fact if you fine tune your bios settings it plays fine.

Yes I guess it is kinda annoying that Steam made a game where your system *has* to be exactly how they want it to be in order for best gameplay.

:) I have no problems playing HL-2, but people with similar OC's & system specs are having a mess of a time with that very buggy HL-2 game.

I hear a 64-Bit patch for HL-2 will be released shortly after Windows XP 64-Bit's release. This patch is said to fix the bugs in HL-2. :)

Well, ever since I took out 1GB of ram, I can play HL-2 @ 2.60GHz & 2.65GHz with no problems.

So, I don't think 4 512MB DDR's are a good choice right now. It seems to cause stability prob's with HL-2 when your system in OC'ed. :)

So, I'll stick with the one set of 1024MB DDR's
