It's a .726 file.

Are you sure it wasn't a mobile phone that you recorded it with?

Anyways, yeah it's an audio format. Commonly used in mobile phones.
123 Audio file converter might be able to help you.

...Have you tried the software I posted?
It should be able to open your file, convert it to whatever file format you want, and then you can play it in winamp/wmp.

That is probably because the software does not recognize .726 as a valid file extension. Perhaps, your MP3 player has corrupted software?  :ermm:

Is there any chance you could send the file to me? I could have a go at converting it for you, if you wanted.

This program looks like it might be able to.  It says it works with G.726 files. http://tinyurl.com/bqae5

I gave a hint at what it was earlier, maybe I should make it more clear. :\

From what I know, Mobile phones/Mobile devices use it.

Anyways, the software I posted ages ago can open it.
