A man who filmed himself skiing down the longest escalator on London's underground rail network was branded "dangerous, stupid and irresponsible" on Wednesday.
A screenshot from YouTube.com, showing a video of a man skiing down an escalator, taken on March 28, 2007. A man who filmed himself skiing down the longest escalator on London's underground rail network was branded "dangerous, stupid and irresponsible" on Wednesday.
The man hurtled down nearly 200 feet (60 metres) at Angel tube station with a camera strapped to his head and posted the video on the YouTube Web site.
The 60-second film shows the man climb the escalator, clip on his skis at the top and begin his high-speed descent as onlookers shout out behind him.
Times Online wrote:
The 60-second film, which has been viewed by more than 100,000 people on the internet, shows the man hurtling down the 100 metre (300ft) escalator at Angel station in North London at a speed of more than 30mph.
In the footage, shot from a camera in the man’s helmet, passengers can be seen strolling past as he fixes his skis at the top of the escalator. He then launches himself down the stairs, arriving to applause at the bottom seven seconds later.
London Underground condemned the stunt.
Quote:
"This is a dangerous, stupid and irresponsible act that could have resulted in serious injury or death to not only the individual concerned but also other passengers,"
it said in a statement.
Quote:
"London Underground will press for the police to take the strongest possible action against anyone attempting a similar act on the tube network."
A British Transport Police spokesman said it was a "naive and reckless act" and urged witnesses to call them.
