Nintendo Revolution will be out early 2007 or some magazines say 2006, it will only be £150!
Nintendo breaks with more than 20 years of video game history by abandoning the traditional controller held with two hands and introducing an all-new freehand-style unit held with one hand. The intuitive, pioneering interface allows players to run, jump, spin, slide, shoot, steer, accelerate, bank, dive, kick, throw and score in a way never experienced in the history of gaming.
When picked up and pointed at the screen, the controller gives a lightning-quick element of interaction, sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting dictated by movement of the controller itself. The controller also allows for a variety of expansions, including a "nunchuk" style analog unit offering the enhanced game-play control hard-core gamers demand.
The design doesn't look too bad - it's very small, which is a bonus. That one-handed controller idea seems pretty good - well, original at least. I wonder how that will work out.
With Nintendo's Japanese Wii conference drawing to a close, the deluge of media and raw information is finally flooding the internet. Set for a December 2nd release in Japan at a slightly more-than-expected price of 25000 yen (£113), the console has been confirmed to be released with just one of its nunchuck controllers and, at least in the East, no pack-in title, with WiiSports selling separately at launch for 4800 yen (£22). Famitsu additionally reports that 30 Nintendo and 30 PC Engine/MegaDrive Virtual Console games will be available by the end of the year.
The New York Times broke an embargo to report that the stateside release of the console will come significantly earlier on November 19th at a price of $250, this time including the Wii Sports compilation. As of yet, no European price or date has been publicly confirmed.
Slides of Iwata's presentation, as well as interspersed game clips, can be seen here, as well as an in-depth look at Mii, the console's 3D custom avatar creator, and the console's other various weather and news options and photo applications. A longer compiled look at the console's software line up can be seen here.
I'd highly debate the fact that Nintendo's Wii looks a bit too 'Playstationy', due to the fact that both the PS3 and the XBox 360 look like rounder versions of the 'Monsterbox' otherwise known as the XBox.
I think Sony is going to dismally fail this time. Now let me explain my burst of Paranoia. Sony had been saying ever since they announced the PS3 that they would get it out in Q3 2006. they stood by that claim until we were almost at that date, and then pushed it back. That's not to say it wasn't inevitable, a worldwide release is hardly practical is it? So we get it here in sunny Australia mid-next year. And to put it on the straight and narrow, a fair damn lot of people, are just sick of waiting. Every person I know who was going to buy a PS3 gave up about 1 month ago and bought a 360.
The Wii will be successful simply because it was out before christmas, it has the hype, and it's within a reasonable price range. Unlike the PS3's expected $800-1000 for the premium pack, and the 360's Premium which costs $650, WITHOUT High Def cable and HD-DVD drive. And what's more, you don't need to spend the extra $5000 on a 1080p/1080i television which will allow you to actually play your games at their highest quality. Overall, the Wii will do brilliantly, simply because of the affordability.
The best "generic Wii blog post and photos" I have seen yet
There have been some posts here about the Nintendo VIP being a bit of a time waster lol, I used it with my DS... but im sure its just a registration thing with a bit of an incentive attached
Yeh I am starting to think it is a little bit pointless, as you can't redeem your points for anything more than a mobile wallpaper... but hopefully they will get some stuff in soon.
